Walking & Climbing in Europe
From the Lakes and North Wales to the Western Alps and beyond; the majority of the hikes on this site can be done by most walkers of average fitness in a day or less without turning into a On Easy Way Up, you will find a number of links to walking and hiking services including quality gear and gadgets; guidebooks and maps; as well as accomodation close to start points of each walk or climb. On walking trips in the Alps for instance, I have stayed cheaply in good hotels, in not so cheap places such as Zermatt and Grindelwald using this company, which is why they're on here. Check out the walks I've done and if you've had a good day in the hills, post it on EWU - no worries about photos not being of perfect quality - some of mine are from pre digital camera days and most were taken in less than perfect weather conditions by a less than perfect photographer. marathon mission and under normal summer conditions, no specialist equipment other than standard mountain hiking gear is required. Those trips which do verge into climbing territory generally require ropes, axe or crampons only as the normal safeguards for glacier travel. None of these routes will have the hapless walker hanging on by the fingernails above a fearsome abyss!
