Walking & hiking in Europe
Welcome to The Easy Way Up - The walking and hiking website of travel writer Pete Buckley - for information on hiking in the Alps, the Lakeland Fells and the mountains of Snowdonia. The majority of hikes listed on Easy Way Up can be done by most walkers of average fitness in a day without turning into a marathon mission and under normal summer conditions no specialist equipment other than Standard Mountain hiking gear is required. Those few trips which do venture into climbing territory generally require ropes, axe or crampons only as the normal safeguards for glacier travel and are tours offered by the local mountain guides office. None of these routes will have the hapless walker hanging on by the fingernails above a fearsome abyss!
The walking and hiking routes are chosen with the emphasis on finding a more interesting or less travelled route up a mountain rather than simply the easiest way up though the easiest way is chosen in the case of most Alpine peaks. In the Lakeland Fells and Snowdonia we concentrate on avoiding the crowds and experiencing the less frequented parts of those regions. There are no routes of a technical nature on easy way up.
Maps and guidebooks to the regions covered on the site may be purchased here, simply search our partners Maps Worldwide at the bottom of this page.
Finally please check out my books 31 days in a Campervan and A Long Walk in the Alps in the shop.
Enjoy!
